ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Q: What type of school is Al-Mizan School?
Al-Mizan School is an Independent Islamic primary school for boys and girls, providing high-quality academic education with a strong emphasis on Qur’an memorisation, Tajweed, and Islamic character development. Alongside core subjects, the school places Qur’anic learning at the heart of its curriculum.

 

Q: What is the school’s ethos and values?
Al-Mizan aims to nurture confident, well-mannered children who excel academically and spiritually. The school places great importance on Qur’an memorisation (Hifdh), good manners, discipline, Islamic values, and strong parental partnership.

ADMISSIONS

Q: Who can apply to Al Mizan School?
We welcome students of all backgrounds who support the school’s ethos and values.

 

Q: How do I apply for a place?
Parents can apply online, in person, or via email by completing the school’s Application Form and submitting the supporting documents.

 

Q: What is the admissions process?

  1. Your child will sit an entry test (CAT4).
  2. Shortlisted candidates attend an interview with parents/guardians.
  3. Places are offered based on academic performance, behaviour, attendance, Qur’an memorisation, and alignment with our school ethos.
  4. Successful applicants confirm the place by signing the agreement and paying one term’s fees.
  5. Offers are made to students who score highest in the interview process (up to 30 places per class). All other students are placed on a waiting list.
  6. Acceptance of a place requires signing an agreement and paying at least one term’s fees within ten working days.

 

Q: Are there any entrance exams?
Yes, applicants sit an entry test (CAT4), alongside an interview to evaluate suitability for our curriculum and school values.

 

Q: What criteria are considered in the admissions interview?
The school considers:

  • Alignment with the school’s vision and values
  • Parents’ commitment to being active partners in their child’s education
  • Student’s ability to read the Qur’an or memorise Juz/Surahs as appropriate
  • Attendance of 95% or higher and good behaviour
  • Evidence of meeting or exceeding expected academic standards
  • Parents’ financial ability to pay the school fees

 

CURRICULUM & TEACHING

Q: What curriculum does the school offer?
Al-Mizan delivers the UK National Curriculum alongside Islamic Studies, Qur’an memorisation, and Arabic. Students also participate in enrichment activities to support their academic and spiritual development.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Q: How do students perform academically?
Al-Mizan School maintains high academic expectations. Pupils benefit from a structured curriculum, regular assessments, and a strong focus on both secular and Islamic subjects.

 

FEES & FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Q: What are the school fees?
Fees can be paid in full upfront or by instalments across three terms. Sibling discounts and early-bird discounts are available.

If parents choose to take their child out of the school, a minimum of one term notice must be provided in writing to the school to receive refund for the remaining fees for that academic year. Admission fees is non-refundable.

To be eligible for a refund, parents must give one full term’s written notice before the start of the next term. If a child is excluded, remaining tuition fees are not refunded.

Q: Are there any discounts?
Yes. Sibling discounts range from 10–15% depending on the number of children, and an early-bird discount of £100 applies for full upfront payments.

 

FEES, REFUNDS & EXCLUSIONS

Q: How are school fees paid?
Fees can be paid in full upfront or by instalments across three terms. Sibling discounts and early-bird discounts are available.

 

Q: Can fees be refunded if a child leaves?
Parents must provide at least one term’s written notice to be eligible for a refund of remaining tuition fees. Admission fees are non-refundable. Students who are excluded are not eligible for a refund.

 

Q: What is the procedure for withdrawing a child?
Parents should submit a written notice stating the reason for withdrawal, the child’s final date of attendance, and the name of the new school. Appeals regarding refunds or exclusions are considered by the Chair of Governors, and a written decision is provided within 20 calendar days.

 

Q: What methods of payment does the school accept?
London East Academy is a cashless school. All fees must be paid either by bank transfer or card payment. We do not accept cash for any school-related payments, including tuition fees, admission fees, or uniform orders. If you need help making a payment, please contact the school office for support.

 

STUDENT LIFE & WELFARE

Q: What is the school uniform?
The school uniform is compulsory for all pupils.

Uniform Requirements

Boys

  • Maroon school jumper (school supplier only)
  • White polo school T-shirt
  • Grey trousers (from suppliers or other retailers; black/navy not allowed)
  • Plain socks
  • Black shoes or trainers (no football boots, lights, or wheels)
  • Optional: White hat

Girls

  • Maroon cardigan/jumper (school supplier only)
  • White polo school T-shirt
  • Optional grey pinafore dress (worn with white polo and maroon jumper)
  • Grey trousers or skirt (no tight-fitting styles, denim, leggings, jeggings, or ankle-length trousers)
  • Plain socks or grey opaque tights
  • Black shoes or trainers (no football boots, lights, or wheels)
  • Pull-on headscarves in white only (no safety pins or magnets; optional for Years 3–4, recommended for Years 5–6)
  • Optional: Plain black ankle-length closed abaya (recommended for Years 5–6, worn with maroon cardigan)

Q: Are school meals provided?
Yes. Families have two options for lunchtime:

  1. School-provided lunch supplied by an external, approved school meal provider.
  2. Packed lunch brought from home.

All staff are DBS-checked, and the school operates strict safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all pupils.
